We’re not born from a boardroom. We’re built by boots on the ground, steel in the dirt, and diesel in the air.

What started as one man and one rig is growing into a no-nonsense crew forged for the Bakken and beyond.

Mud & Flame was founded by seasoned industry professionals who prefer to keep their heads down and their results loud.

One founder served five years in the United States Marine Corps, completing two combat tours in Iraq. After leaving the military, he spent eight years on a Type 2 Initial Attack hand crew in wildland fire, working some of the hardest fire seasons in the western U.S.

From there, he transitioned to the oilfield — logging six years in the Bakken across roles from general laborer to truck pusher, roustabout, and on-site manager. He also built and ran a successful hotshot business on the side, hauling critical loads through all conditions.

The second founder brings over a decade of fireline experience, having spent the last 12 wildland fire seasons operating heavy equipment on some of the most challenging incidents across the West.

Off the line, they've also built a reputation in the trades — running a successful construction business that has delivered everything from precision decks to full custom homes.

Both founders strive to provide excellent professional services under some of the most demanding conditions in the most demanding environments.

In a -40° whiteout or cutting fireline in 110° timber, we’re not in it for the easy days. We thrive in extremes. We lead with grit. And we deliver — day in, day out — because that’s the Mud & Flame way.
